18-year-old Radford man faces rape, drug charges

RADFORD, Va. – An 18-year-old Radford man is facing serious charges, including rape and strangulation.

Officers arrested Michael Mendoza on Monday. The alleged offense happened November 15 in the 1500 block of Staples St. at Rustic Village.

Mendoza is accused of giving a 14-year-old girl marijuana. She told police that after smoking, he forced her to have sex with him. She was also choked and beaten, according to search warrants filed in Radford Circuit Court. 

The girl was taken to a nearby hospital. 

Police confiscated cellphones, sheets and drug paraphernalia at the scene.  

Mendoza is charged with two counts of rape, two counts of strangulation, forcible sodomy, two counts of distributing drugs to a minor, and solicitation to commit a felony.

Mendoza is being held without bond at the New River Regional Jail.
