Amherst County Sheriff's Office: Recent arrest 'significant' in fight against meth

AMHERST COUNTY, Va. – The Amherst County Sheriff's Office is calling its recent arrest a "significant" blow to the area's methamphetamine problem.

Deputies arrested Ramon Alonso Maldonado, 40, of Amherst, on Thursday following a traffic stop. 

Maldonado is charged with two counts of drug distribution. He is accused of selling more than 10 grams of pure meth and more than 20 grams of a mixture containing meth. 

Maldonado is being held without bond at the Amherst Adult Detention Center. 

The charges stem from an ongoing investigation that involves state and federal resources.
