Lynchburg Fire Department annual T-shirt drive raise $14,000 for cancer awareness

The money will support Centra Foundation's "MAAM" fund

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Firefighters in the Hill City are making a difference for local cancer programs.

The Lynchburg Fire Department recently raised $14,000 during their annual T-shirt drive. The money will support Centra Foundation's mammograms or the "MAAM" fund, which helps fund and organize free mammogram screenings and diagnostic treatment for those in need.

Thanks to "the thousands of dollars that the community group like the fire department contribute. We our efforts we might be able to screen 300 to 400 women per year enabling them to have mammograms. It really does help,”  said Dr. Kathryn Pumphrey, executive vice president of Centra Foundation.

This is the eighth year for the fundraiser.
