Roanoke man charged in Food Lion armed robbery

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – Roanoke County police have arrested a man accused of robbing a grocery store at gunpoint. 

Officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Food Lion on the 4800 block of Hollins Road on Tuesday.

Police say Food Lion staff challenged a man they believed had been stealing. When they did that, the man pulled out a gun and ran off. 

Officers spotted the man, who was armed, and took him into custody. They were able to recover what had been stolen. 

Roanoke City resident Aaron Petty, 37, is charged with robbery, brandishing a gun, and the use or display of a gun in commission of a felony.
