What's News Today: December 13, 2017

Here's a look at some of the stories we'll be following today

The trial begins today for the Lexington woman, accused of murder in Augusta County.  A grand jury indicted Tina Matheny in September on a first-degree murder charge.  According to the sheriff's office, Matheny stabbed 36-year old Peggy Woods outside of a Craigsville grocery store in March.

A hearing takes place for one of the three people charged in connection to a 2016 murder.  18-year old Kaitlyn Webber is charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of 41-year-old Troy Roberson.  A trail is scheduled for Floyd Archie Junior in March and Rodney Hamlette in April.

The Lynchburg Planning Commission meets this afternoon.  It will consider rezoning a piece of land on Border Street so a hotel can be built.  The proposed four story hotel would have 122 rooms.

Martinsville City Council will get information tonight about the appointment of a temporary Commonwealth's Attorney.  Clay Gravely resigned from the position due to health reason.  Virginia law states that his deputy, Andy Hall, will take over through the end of next year.  State law also says that a special election must be held in November of 2018 to fill the position for the remainder of the term, which expires in 2021.
