New hotel could come to Lynchburg

The project would have 122 rooms, nearby parking.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A new hotel could be coming to the Hill City. City planners in Lynchburg recently approved a proposal to turn an old ice cream parlor on Border Street into a Woodspring Suites. The project would have 122 rooms and nearby parking. According to the planning commission, the proposal is near Liberty University and joins a list of hotels already in the area.

"Well the area hotels certainly fill up when Liberty University has events. In general, it’s exciting to see a proposal for a site that's been vacant for a very long time and such a visible location right next to the expressway. It’s refreshing to see some movement on the property,” said Rachel Frischeisen, planner for Lynchburg City.

City leaders will give final consideration for the project at the city council meeting next month.
