Race to help address child abuse issues sees record attendance

The Johnny Casa race was Saturday morning in Rocky Mount

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. – The 12th-annual Johnny Casa 5-miler and 5-K race Saturday morning in Rocky Mount went well, according to organizers. The event supports the Southern Virginia Child Advocacy Center.

Staff members said any amount of money can help the center stay on track and they were excited by the turnout this year, which hit a milestone they had been waiting for for 12 years.

"It makes my heart bust," executive officer of SVCAC Joyce Moran said. "I'm thrilled. We've been shooting to surpass 200 for 12 years. Lots of times we've gotten close. I'm looking for 225 next year."

She said participating in an event like this can make an impact in addressing child abuse issues.
