New roundabout coming to intersection in Concord

VDOT says roundabout will help keep people safe, maintain flow of traffic

CONCORD, Va. – Looking to improve safety, people who travel along the intersection of Village Highway, Spring Mill and Doss Road in Concord will soon see a new roundabout.

The Virginia Department of Transportation said the intersection being constructed will not only help keep people safe, it will also maintain the flow of traffic. They said over the past 10 years, there have been 26 crashes at the intersection, but no fatalities. An elementary school and church are located nearby. Some people who live nearby say they don't support the roundabout because the intersection will cut into their property.

"I don't think it’s needed out here in a rural area. Due to the accidents I would like a stoplight,” resident Clifton Burleigh said.

The project will cost about $3.1 million and should be finished by September 2018.
