Salem police charge man in connection with two recent armed robberies
Jones faces 11 total charges in connection with the two robberies
SALEM, Va. – Salem police arrested the man they say is responsible for two armed robberies within the past month.
Sherman Jones, 37, of Roanoke, faces two counts of robbery, two counts of use of a firearm in
commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, two counts of
wearing a mask in public, two counts of brandishing a firearm and one count of felony grand larceny.
On Nov. 19, at about 8:20 p.m., officers responded to the Choice Cigarette Discount Outlet located in the 500 block of East 4th Street in reference to a reported armed robbery.
Almost a week later on Nov. 25, at about 12:55 a.m., officers were called to the P&N Market located in the 300 block of Wildwood Road in reference to another armed robbery.
In both instances, the victims described the suspect as a black man with a silver handgun, who
entered the stores demanding money and then ran away.
No one was injured in either robbery.
Waynesboro police apprehended Sherman in relation to another crime in their jurisdiction earlier
The arrest warrants related to the Salem crimes were served on Dec. 13.
Currently, Sherman is at the Rockbridge Regional Jail where he is being held without bond, and the
investigation is ongoing.
