News and events happening today

ROANOKE – Roanoke City Council meets this afternoon. On the agenda is a closed session to talk about the Historic Fire Station Number One in downtown Roanoke on Church Avenue. As we've reported the city was looking to sell the property. In March, we told you the city received six proposals but those weren't shared. We did learn the proposals included a wide variety of possible uses. At the time we were told the proposals would remain confidential until a final decision was made on the lease or sale of the property.

Volvo is holding a job fair in Salem. It is looking for full time welders, painters, electricians, general maintenance, and assembly production. Your pay starts at $16 per hour. This is one of four job fairs the company is holding.

Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meets tonight. On the agenda is a request for money for Christiansburg High School renovations and a recognition of Delegate Joseph Yost. He will not be representing the area after losing the election to Chris Hurst in November.
