ROANOKE, Va. – Hundreds of students throughout the Roanoke Valley were treated to a private performance of "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, The Musical" by the Roanoke Children's Theatre.
More than 880 elementary school students from Roanoke City, Roanoke County, Botetourt County and Salem City schools were invited.
The audience full of kids played a big role in today's performance, clapping along to the songs and cheering for the performers, many of whom are kids themselves.
"Live theater isn't like the movies," said Pat Wilhelms, the artistic director for Roanoke Children's Theatre. "It's such a bigger spectacle. I love seeing the kids get involved and paying attention and reacting to what they see as far as the live theater."
The musical emphasizes the importance of treating everyone with kindness, especially during the holiday season.
The first public performance is Wednesday at 7 p.m. For more information and to buy tickets, click here.
