Man wanted in connection with Pittsylvania County shooting arrested in North Carolina

Authorities arrested Scales in Raleigh, North Carolina


PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY – The man authorities believe is responsible for Monday night's shooting in Pittsylvania County is in custody.

Vernoise Scales Jr. was arrested without incident in Raleigh, North Carolina, according to the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators are now in Raliegh.

The Sheriff's Office says it's uncertain when Scales will be returned to Virginia as he will be afforded his extradition options, which may include a hearing, or he may waive his rights. 

Pittsylvania County deputies are looking for the man they believe is involved in a shooting.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Vernoise Scales Jr. 

After interviewing the victim at the hospital, the sheriff's office believe Scales shot him.  

The victim is in stable condition.

Scales is charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The sheriff's office believes he is armed and dangerous.
