Five charged with theft of $9,000 in tools from Bedford Middle School construction site

Authorities say they've recovered about 25 percent of the stolen tools

BEDFORD, Va. – The Bedford County Sheriff's Office has five people in custody in connection with the theft of about $9,000 worth of tools stolen earlier this week.

The Sheriff’s Office received a report Monday about the theft of a large number of tools from the new Bedford Middle School job site.

The contractor advised deputies that several toolboxes had been broken into sometime over the weekend.

As a result of the investigation, deputies arrested the following five people and charged each of them with breaking and entering and grand larceny: 

  • Kevin L. Thibodeau, 20, of Monroe, Virginia
  • Cheyanne C. Tom, 20, Bedford, Virginia
  • Charles A. Murphy Jr., 20, Bedford, Virginia
  • Jacob N. Desmond, 20, Madison Heights, Virginia
  • Thomas S. Jerina, 22, Madison Heights, Virginia

Investigators say they have recovered about 25 percent of the stolen tools.
