President Trump appoints Liberty University professor to Department of Justice position

Dr. Caren Harp will leave Liberty University

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A Liberty University professor is taking on a new task with the Department of Justice. President Donald Trump appointed Dr. Caren Harp to become the administrator of the office of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.

Harp says she applied for the federal job  in August and says it’s been an ongoing process. Harp has been an associate professor of law at Liberty University for six years. She has a background in juvenile justice, where she trained prosecutors and judges across the country. She believes her 20-plus years of experience have qualified her for this new position.

“I don't think we'll ever get a handle on the adult criminal population until we address the problems with our youth. So if we do that, then we can prevent the flow into our criminal justice system. So that's what we'd like to do. So that's always been the heart of my passion,” Dr. Caren Harp said.

Harp will leave Liberty University to take the job.
