Lynchburg first responders help families in need for Christmas

10 kids were paired with a local police officer or firefighter to shop for gifts

LYNCHBURG, Va. – First responders in Lynchburg are teaming up to help those in need. Around 10 kids were paired with a local police officer or firefighter to shop for gifts at the Walmart on Wards Road. The "Hanging with Heroes" event is all part of an effort to improve relationships, which will strengthen the community.

“Right now, we're only working two days a week. Everything's been real slow this month. I've been real stressed out because I wouldn't have nothing for the grandbabies, and people have come to help me out with the grandbabies,” said Lynn Warley, a grandmother of two.

The kids were chosen by local pastors who are involved in the One Community, One Voice organization.
