Man charged with stabbing Lexington woman to death

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. – Authorities have charged a 31-year-old Lexington man with second-degree murder after a woman was found dead Thursday night.

At about 11 p.m., the Rockbridge Regional Public Safety Communications Center received a report of a possible suicide at the Hunt Ridge Apartments.

Deputies responded to the location and found 31-year-old Kelly Nicole Farmer, of Lexington, dead, according to the Rockbridge County Sheriff's Office.

While investigating, deputies learned that Farmer had been involved in a domestic dispute earlier in the night.

Injuries sustained from multiple knife wounds during this altercation resulted in her death, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Derek Vasco Chittum, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Chittum is being held without bond in the Rockbridge Regional Jail.
