Roanoke Rescue Mission flying amnesty flag as the temperatures drop

ROANOKE, Va. – As the temperatures continue to decline, the Roanoke Rescue Mission is serving hundreds of people.

In the last few weeks, the mission has provided shelter for around 300 men, women and children every night. When the temperature is this low, the mission puts out its amnesty flag, meaning anyone can come into the shelter to stay.

And 2017 was a busy year for the mission. According to the mission's newsletter, more than 220,000 meals were served this year. Throughout the year, more than 30,000 clothing items were provided to people in need.
