Today Show announces Hoda Kotb as replacement for Matt Lauer

Hoda Kotb is a Virginia Tech graduate

The Today Show has officially announced Matt Lauer's replacement.

Virginia Tech graduate Hoda Kotb will join Savannah Guthrie as a co-host.

Kotb has been the co-host of the fourth hour of The Today Show since 2008. She will continue to host that hour as well.

The Today Show made headlines when it fired longtime co-host Matt Lauer in late November following sexual misconduct allegations.

Hoda is also a Virginia Tech Graduate and university officials say they're proud to call her a fellow Hokie.

"It brings great pride to the university. We are really proud of Hoda. She's demonstrated everything Hokie's are supposed to be which is successful. She's been a really engaged alum and she's helped us so much. Just the entire Hokie nation is proud of her new accomplishment and we know she's going to do really really well," said Winston, director of alumni relations.
