Roanoke Ski Club donates winter coats to Roanoke City school students

ROANOKE, Va. – More than 100 Roanoke City students will be a little warmer this winter thanks to the generosity of a local club.

The Roanoke Ski Club began a fundraising effort this fall to purchase winter coats for kids in need. The club raised more than $2,000 which enabled them to buy 138 winter coats through the Operation Warm Foundation. The money was raised by club members at meetings and special events in the past few months.

"It's heartbreaking and this is a really nice way, as I say, those of us who love the winter to pass along the nice warm feeling you get when you're outside in the snow as opposed to being something that is very stressful," said Marla Kemsey, president of the Roanoke Ski Club.
