Vinton deals with power outage

Police say a suspected drunk driving crash knocked out power

VINTON, Va. – Police say Saturday that a suspected drunk driving crash knocked out power in parts of Vinton late Friday night.

They say power is out in South Vinton along the Third Street corridor between Franklin Avenue and Wyndham Drive. Police report that a crash around 11 p.m. led to the outage.

Police say American Electric Power hopes to have power restored Saturday afternoon.

Storm Team 10 projects the high temperature Saturday in the Roanoke Valley will be in the low 20s.

Police add that the town of Vinton has opened the Vinton War Memorial at 814 E. Washington Avenue for anyone needing a warm place to stay while the power is being restored. The town will also be operating a shuttle bus from the Northampton and Southampton Apartments located at 128 Southampton Drive, and A Porter’s Haven located at 1702 Saunja Circle. Anyone needing additional information or emergency assistance should call the Roanoke County Emergency Communications Center at 540-562-3265 or 911.
