Five men arrested, charged in connection with Martinsville armed robbery and carjacking

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Martinsville police arrested five men after a reported robbery early Tuesday morning.

At 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to the 700 block of West Fayette Street in reference to a reported robbery.

The victim told authorities that he was approached by five men, two of whom had guns.

The victim was then pulled from the driver’s seat of his vehicle, forced to the ground and then the armed men went through his pockets and stole cash, his cellphone and his shoes, according to police.

The suspects then stole the victim’s 1999 Chrysler Sebring.

Within minutes of arriving at the scene, officers obtained a detailed description of the suspects and were able to identify and locate them a short distance from where the crime occurred. 

Delawrence Long, 19, Nycorey Harper, 19, Deangelo Howard, 21, Traiquan Hairston, 19, and Nykel Martin, 18, were all charged with carjacking.

All five are from Martinsville.

Long and Harper were also charged with armed robbery, grand larceny and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Howard, Hairston and Martin are charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery grand larceny.

All were arrested without incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
