Children, firefighter taken to hospital after Roanoke house fire

5 are displaced but everyone is expected to be OK

ROANOKE, Va.UPDATE

Overloaded electrical equipment is to blame for a house fire that displaced five people in Southeast Roanoke Tuesday night.

The fire caused an estimated $40,000 in damages.

Roanoke Fire-EMS are currently on the scene of a house fire in the 1500 block of 8th St., SE.

According to their Facebook page, the fire started around 9:50 p.m. Five people are displaced, including two adults and three children.

The children are being taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for observation and are expected to be OK.

The post also said a firefighter was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.  The American Red Cross is helping the family and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
