Pedestrian hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after Halifax County hit-and-run

Police say two vehicles were on Route 501 when one tried to pass the other

HALLIFAX COUNTY, Va. – State police are investigating a hit-and-run of a pedestrian in northern Halifax County at the Staunton River and Campbell County line.

The crash happened at about 6:45 a.m. Friday on Route 501/L.P. Bailey Memorial Highway about a half mile north of Route 632/Hog Wallow Road.

Police say two vehicles were traveling north on Route 501 when one tried to pass the other.

The passing vehicle illegally used the right shoulder where it hit a man who was walking in the shoulder, according to police. 

After striking him, the vehicle then struck the guardrail and drove away.

The hit pedestrian was transported to Centra Lynchburg General Hospital where he is still being treated for life-threatening injuries.
