Water main break on Orange Ave. to affect morning commute

Officials say salt trucks are helping, but roads are slippery

All eastbound lanes have been reopened.

There are still westbound lane closures Monday morning. Crews have finished repairing the break, but they are still working on the road. This is expected to impact traffic through the morning commute.

We're being told by Roanoke City Police that a water main has broken on the intersection of Williamson Road and Orange Avenue.

According to the Western Virginia Water Authority, crews are working to keep some lanes clear.

Traffic is expected to be impacted throughout the night.

The break happened earlier Sunday, according to the department.

The department's Twitter account says to use extreme caution, and that detours are likely to come soon.

Salt trucks are being used in the area, but the roads are very slippery.

Police are encouraging drivers to find an alternative route.
