New development planned for Williamson Road
Site for Happy's Flea Market sold
ROANOKE, Va. – New plans are in the works for a longtime Roanoke landmark.
Real estate group Poe and Cronk announced that the site for Happy's Flea Market has been sold.
The building closed for good in 2015.
The nearly 90,000 square-foot site sold for close to $1 million right before Christmas.
It's not yet clear what the area, now known as 5411, will become.
"The first thing people are going to ask: 'Is there going to be a flea market?' No. It's not zoned for a flea market, at least not an outdoor flea market. It won't be a flea market. I can't really divulge a lot of what the developer is going to do, so stay tuned. I think people are going to be excited," Williamson Road Area Business Association executive director Wendy Jones said.
Other development is in the works on Williamson Road, including demolishing the K-Mart to make way for a BJ's Wholesale Club.
