Roanoke's Blue Ridge Parkway is destination spot for millions

ROANOKE, Va.- – Millions of people are visiting the Blue Ridge Parkway, one of southwest Virginia's most popular attractions.

According to Virginia's Blue Ridge, 1.2 million visitors stopped by one of the five entry areas in Roanoke last year.

The entry areas include Route 460, Route 220, Mill Mountain Parkway, Route 221 and Route 24.

The largest entry point is Route 220. More than 400, 000 visitors entered the Blue Ridge there, which is up  3.5 percent from 2016.

Visits to the scenic road that runs from North Carolina to Virginia exceeded 16 million for the first time since 2008.
