HENRY COUNTY, Va. – UPDATE
A 6-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car while sledding.
It happened in the Axton area of Henry County Thursday morning.
The child, Aaron Frias-Alvarez, died just after noon at Sovah Health in Martinsville.
Aaron was a student at Mt. Olivet Elementary School in Henry County who made the principal's honor roll last month.
The driver, a 73-year-old Axton man, was going approximately 25 mph when the accident happened, according to state police. The sled slid underneath the car.
The driver did not have time to stop. A passenger heard a noise, looked out and saw the child.
No charges are being filed against the driver. He was not hurt.
State police are not sure yet if the child was being supervised.
Neighbor Mary Burwell said she hopes to help comfort the boy's family.
She was devastated to learn that the boy had died.
"Cold chills went all over my body. I'm going up there to visit. It may not be today. It'll probably be tomorrow, but I'm going up there to visit them," Burwell said.
State police were continuing to investigate the accident as of Thursday night.

The child was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to state police.
Authorities say an older man was driving. The driver stopped.
