Overnight re-freezing causes dangerous conditions on roadways

Dropping temperatures have caused re-freezing on roadways.

Virginia Department of Transportation crews worked overnight to plow secondary routes and maintain main roads. They are continuing to treat roads as well.

State police are recommending that drivers not travel on I-77 near the North Carolina border. As of 10 a.m., troopers have responded to three overturned tractor trailers on that stretch of highway.

The other interstates and main roads are mostly clear but there are still icy patches. Watch for slick spots on bridges and ramps.

Even the main roads are in moderate condition in Henry County, which means that those roads may be difficult to pass.

Secondary roads are in moderate condition throughout the area.

Drivers are asked to consider delaying their travel time if possible to wait for temperatures to rise.
