Crews responding to brush fire near Franklin/Roanoke County line


Crews are working to contain a brush fire Friday night.

The fire, off of Naff Road, has crews from both Franklin County and Roanoke County responding.

Roanoke County Fire and Rescue responded at about 5:15 p.m. to Meadow Branch Road in Franklin County to assist.

On the Roanoke County side is about two acres in size and is 75 percent contained.

There are no structures being threatened by this fire, according to Brian Clingenpeel with Roanoke County Fire and Rescue.

The Virginia Department of Forestry is on scene with one bulldozer to help cut a containment line and Clingenpeel says another bulldozer is on the way.

Fire crews on scene are performing back-fire operations to help contain the fire.

This fire originated in Franklin County from an unknown source.
