Police arrest man after search for possibly armed suspect in Northwest Roanoke

ROANOKE – Police say they have arrested someone after searching parts of Northwest Roanoke after a report of an armed person in the area.

Ronnie Stout Jr., 33, of Roanoke, is on his way to the hospital to receive mental help, according to Lt. Andy Pulley with Roanoke police.

The 911 call came in as an armed person who was walking in his front yard with a gun and then in his backyard.

Police went to a magistrate to receive an emergency custody order, according to Pulley.

The Tactical Response Team and hostage negotiators responded. Stout released the individuals in the home with him and barricaded himself inside the home, according to police.

At 10 p.m., police say the man gave up and walked outside after some phone negotiations.

Pulley said people nearby were never asked to leave their homes, but if they were inside, they were asked to go to the basement.

At the time of the man's arrest, he was not in possession of a gun.
