Elderly Danville couple stabbed to death, daughter in hospital

Man arrested, charged with 1st-degree murder

DANVILLE, Va.UPDATE

The Danville Police Department says that an elderly couple, murdered on Wednesday night, was stabbed to death by a 52-year-old man.

The third person, who was stabbed and taken to the hospital, has been identified as the couple's daughter. 

Police say the victims are 87-year-old Valean Ferrell Barley and 83-year-old Royal Douglas Barley.

The couple's daughter is in stable condition at the hospital. Police have not released her name. 

Police have arrested 52-year-old Onis Donnell Moon, who is charged with two counts of 1st-degree murder. Police arrested him as he was walking away from the house. Officers are not looking for any other suspects. 

This is an ongoing investigation.


Danville police are investigating the murder of an elderly couple. 

Police responded to a home in the 100 block of Lexington Avenue for a disturbance just before 10 p.m. Wednesday. The home is in a neighborhood off of Route 29. 

When they arrived, they found three people who had severe injuries. Two of them were pronounced dead at the scene and the third person was taken to the hospital. 

Police identified the victims as 87-year-old Valean Ferrell Barley and 83-year-old Royal Douglas Barley.

The third person is in stable condition at the hospital. Police have not released her name.

Moon is being held at the Danville City Jail without bond. Police are investigating a motive.
