Colorado wildlife officials say they are investigating reports that a small, single-engine aircraft harassed a herd of elk in the north-central portion of the state.
The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction reports witnesses told authorities they saw the aircraft make two low passes over the herd near the community of Craig, causing the animals to scatter.
The witnesses described the aircraft as either white or yellow and possibly a Cirrus SR22 or a Piper Cherokee.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesman Mike Porras says it's illegal to use an aircraft to harass wildlife or as an aid in hunting.
