BEDFORD COUNTY – Bedford firefighters responded to a fire early Saturday morning near Smith Mountain Lake.
According to Responding Fire Facebook page, several fire companies were called to the report of a structure fire at the Virginia Dare Marina at Smith Mountain Lake. Bedford County dispatchers say the call came in at 3:45 a.m.
According to the post, the main building and the dock were both on fire. They have since been put out. Photos of the scene were posted showing heavy smoke. The investigation has been handed over to the Bedford County Fire and Rescue Office.
Saturday afternoon, the Beacon Pub at The Virginia Dare Marina posted the following statement about the fire to its Facebook page:
"We regret to confirm that early this morning our main marina building caught fire. Although this is sad news for Beacon Pub and all that was lost in the main building, we are blessed to report that nobody was hurt or injured first and foremost. No other damage occurred to the Virginia Dare Cruise Boat, Portside Grill & Bar or any boats/slips. We are beginning to process all steps to get the main building property restored and hope all of you will continue to support the remaining functional aspects of our business. We have worked hard and will continue to do everything we can to restore this iconic marina on Smith Mountain Lake! Thanks to all of the firefighters, first responders and all others who came to lend a hand and support us. We are so thankful for this supporting community."
