Thousands lose power in Southwest Virginia due to winter weather

Thousands of Appalachian Power customers are in the dark Wednesday morning due to issues related to winter weather.

More than 12,300 customers have lost power in Virginia, as of 10 a.m.

Lynchburg has the largest outage in our area, with roughly 2,500 customers without power. Another 2,000 customers in Roanoke City and Roanoke County are affected.

More outages will be reported as more people wake up and realize they have lost power.

Appalachian Power expects to have power returned to most customers by noon.
