Woman shot while driving near Hurt Park in Roanoke

Victim expected to survive

ROANOKE, Va. – A woman has been taken to the hospital after she was shot while driving in southwest Roanoke, according to Caitlyn Cline with the Roanoke Police Department. 

Authorities say they received a call for the shooting at the intersection of 17th Street and Salem Avenue SW around 8:30 p.m. That's close to Hurt Park Elementary. 

The woman, who has not been named, was shot while she was driving on Salem Avenue. She then crashed into a parked car, which was unoccupied. 

Cline said the woman was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She is expected to survive. 

Police have not yet made any arrests and ask anyone with information to call (540)344-8500.
