BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. – A 43-year-old woman was flown to a hospital and her 24-year-old daughter was taken there by ambulance after both were attacked by a dog Tuesday afternoon, according to the Bedford County Sheriff's Office.
The incident happened in the 8800 block of Falling Creek Road, about 5 miles away from the Sheriff's Office.
At 2:50 p.m., Bedford County 911 received a call from 24-year-old Peyton M. Bryant, who said she and her mother, 43-year-old Jamie R. Bryant, were being attacked by her dog and needed help fast.
Nine minutes later, deputies arrived on the scene to find both women lying on the ground with severe injuries and the dog circling them.
Deputies also found two small children in a car who were unharmed.
Due to the extensive injuries of the victims and imminent danger, a deputy was forced to kill the dog, a pitbull terrier, according to the Sheriff's Office.Â
Both women remain in the hospital, as of Wednesday morning.Â
Deputies transported the dog’s remains to the Bedford County Health Department for testing. It could take up to six weeks to get the results.Â
