ROANOKE, Va. – The scene at the intersection of Cove Road and Wellsley Street NW in Roanoke is now clear.
Many people living in one Northwest Roanoke neighborhood got a scare Friday as a swarm of law enforcement vehicles rushed in.
The scene is now clear, but law enforcement officers arrived within city limits on Cove Road near the intersection with Wellsley Street Friday morning.
Roanoke city police officers on the scene said they assisted Virginia State Police as troopers were pursuing a suspect, but they were not able to catch the suspect.
Neighbors were worried they were watching a stand-off, but police assured the 10 News crew on the scene that was not the case.
“To see it on this block right here, it’s like, ‘Wow.’” said a witness who asked to remain anonymous. “[It’s] not disturbing, but disorienting. Like, ‘Wow,’ you know?”
Witnesses say one person was taken into custody. 10 News has not learned why officers were pursuing the suspect in that area or what the charges against them may be.
As of the time of this posting Virginia State Police have not returned a request for more information from 10 News.
