Virginia Tech basketball player Ty Outlaw misses court date

Charges continued

A player on the Virginia Tech men's basketball team is facing a new court date after missing his scheduled appearance Thursday morning.

Ty Outlaw missed his court appearance scheduled for Thursday morning, but court records show that his marijuana possession charge has been continued until Sept. 12 and the charges of controlled substance and speeding have been continued until Dec. 12.

A Virginia Tech basketball player did not show up for his scheduled court appearance on Thursday.

Ty Outlaw was charged in March with marijuana possession, a misdemeanor.

As we've reported, court documents show Blacksburg police noticed a "strong odor of burnt marijuana" coming from his apartment.

The next day, police searched it and found a white pill, two yellow capsules, an electronic vape cartridge, and green plant material.

Outlaw was in California at the time and passed a drug test. He was allowed to play in the March Madness game against Duke University.

The judge fined Outlaw $100 and suspended his license for six months.
