HAYNESVILLE, Va. – Update, 4 p.m. Wednesday:
All inmates who were hospitalized Saturday as a result of suspected overdoses at Haynesville Correctional Center have all been released.
Six of the offenders were released from Riverside Tappahannock Hospital and Rappahannock General Hospital on Sunday. The last offender was released early Tuesday morning.
One of the eight offenders was pronounced dead as a result of the incident on Saturday at 8:32 p.m. The overdoses were reportedly discovered around 7:15 p.m. Saturday.
Authorities say they are still looking into what the suspected drug was and how it got into the facility.
Update, 9:45 a.m. Sunday:
Six of the eight offenders suspected of overdosing have left the hospital. One offender remains hospitalized, according to the Virginia Department of Corrections.
One person is dead after an overdose at a correctional center that also saw seven others overdose.
The overdoses were discovered at 7:15 p.m. Saturday at the Haynesville Correctional Center, with one offender, Steven Anderson, pronounced dead at 8:32 p.m.
The other seven offenders have received medical treatment.
It is not known what caused the suspected overdoses.
Visitation for the facility is canceled for Sunday.
