VDOT preps for possible winter weather

With the possibility of snow and sleet on the way, VDOT is looking to stay ahead of the weather.

If you are out driving, you may see some VDOT trucks on the roads pre-treating with brine.

We’re told the solution is a mix of salt and water that helps keep the roads from freezing over.

VDOT spokesman Jason Bond says crews are prepped and ready to go when and if the weather turns.

“We are readying our crews to be ready to work in 12-hour shifts for the weekend,” said Bond. “So folks will be out there putting down that brine as a pre-treatment ahead of that storm on the interstate and primary roads in the more mountainous areas.”
