Botetourt County Police search for suspect in early morning stabbing

BOTETOURT COUNTY (WSLS10)-- The Botetourt County Sheriff's Office is looking for information leading to the arrest of Derrick Wayne Wertz after an early morning stabbing.

Officers were called to the 3000 block of Old Fincastle Road just after 4:30 a.m. for a domestic dispute.

When officers arrived, they found a 24-year-old woman who had been stabbed in the leg. Investigators found that Wertz, a former boyfriend of the woman, had broken into the home and assaulted the woman and a friend.

The woman was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital and treated for a non-life threatening injury.

Wertz left the home before police arrived. Warrants are on file for breaking and entering and malicious wounding charges.

The 26 year old is 6'3" and about 230 lbs. He has brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police.
