CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - The Christiansburg Police Department opened another floor at its downtown station, after more than a year of construction.
The building's third floor has not been used in 16 years. Now, it will house four divisions and units.
The renovations cost more than $1 million, but they were cheaper than building a new station.
Police Chief Mark Sisson said before this, they were operating with multiple people crammed into each office, with some people even working out of the kitchen.
The third floor will also house a new polygraph machine. Christiansburg officers were previously driving to Wytheville or Salem to perform polygraph tests.
