Dog stuck in abandoned mines

WSAZ - MINGO COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A West Virginia family says they've run out of avenues to turn as they try to rescue their dog, trapped in an abandoned mine shaft for nearly two weeks.

Ivan Thornsbury was coon hunting with his 4-year-old dog Kate, a Treeing Walker breed, when Kate disappeared.

He used a GPS tracking device to pin her location and discovered she was stuck underground at an abandoned mine site.

"When I got to this hole right here, she started barking," Thornsbury said. "I couldn't see her, but I could hear her underground."
