Former UVA student sues swim team members for hazing

CHARLOTTESVILLE (WSLS 10) - A former student and member of the swim team at the University of Virginia has filed a federal lawsuit against five members of the team.

In the lawsuit, the victim, 19 year old Anthony Marcantonio, alleges that he was assaulted and verbally abused last fall.

His dream was to attend the university and swim, but his lawsuit says his dreams were shattered when he was humiliated by violent hazing.

The lawsuit says the swim coach knew about the hazing, as did the Dean of Students.

Marcantonio was forced to leave the team and later the school.

He's requesting a jury trial and asking for compensatory and punitive damages of an unknown amount.
