Four Radford fraternities suspended for possibly mistreating a goat

RADFORD (WSLS 10) - Radford University has temporarily suspended four fraternities for the possible mistreatment of a goat.

On Sunday, December 4, the university was made aware by concerned community members and students of allegations of the possible mistreatment of a young goat by one or more student groups off-campus.

The university says it takes this allegation seriously and immediately commenced an investigation with the help of the Radford University Police Department.

As a result of preliminary information obtained though the course of the investigation, the Radford University Office of Student Standards and Conduct notified Delta Chi, Sigma Pi, Pi Lamda Phi and Alpha Sigma Phi on Monday to tell them that they are hereby placed on interim suspension from the university pending resolution of the matter.

These notifications were made after consultation with the chapters' respective national offices.

As conditions of their interim suspension, the chapters have been notified that they "…may not hold any events, this includes but is not limited to meetings, social events (on or off campus), and any event that a reasonable person would consider…" a chapter event.

The university's investigation into the allegations continues.

Anyone with information regarding the location or condition of the animal, or facts regarding the alleged mistreatment, is asked to contact RUPD at 540-831-5500 or the RUPD Crimestoppers Anonymous Tip Line: 540-831-STOP (7867).
