FRANKLIN COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Franklin County Sheriff William Overton will speak at a meeting of Preserve Franklin Thursday evening addressing concerns about trespassing and other illegal activities by surveyors working for the Mountain Valley Pipeline.

The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 13 at the Redwood United Methodist Church located at 3001 Old Franklin Turnpike in Rocky Mount.

According to the group Preserve Franklin, the sheriff will clarify the circumstances in which deputies will respond to complaints about trespassing by surveyors. They say Sheriff Overton has pledged to rigorously enforce the law and to work closely with county residents to ensure their property rights are protected.

Preserve Franklin says for more than eight months they've been working hard to educate and inform citizens as well as public officials and local government about the environmental hazards, risks, and property right issues surrounding the proposed Mountain Valley Pipeline.
