In God We Trust will go up in Montgomery County board room

CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - The Montgomery County government center will soon get a makeover that not everyone is happy about.

During its meeting Monday night, the board of supervisors voted four to three to put up the national motto, In God We Trust, on display behind where the board members sit. It will go alongside the state and county motto as well.

The board has debated the issue for months. Those in favor said the motto represents how the majority of the county feels.

"When they brought in the signed petitions, it wasn't from one district. It was from all over the county," said Todd King, the supervisor who proposed the resolution.

Those who voted against the motto said it is not inclusive of people from different backgrounds.

Those board members were hoping the motto could be displayed on the side of the room, in what they called a more educational setting.
