ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A food business incubator is now open in the Star City.
Local Environmental Agriculture Project, or LEAP, opened The Kitchen in Roanoke's West End neighborhood on Tuesday after years of planning.
The community kitchen will support entrepreneurs and increase access to healthy local food.
"It could be farmers who are processing, making value out of products like turning tomatoes into salsa, or it could be a good truck who needs to use us as a commissary kitchen. It could be a catering company, there's a lot of options for how this commercial kitchen can be used," said Maureen McNamara Best, the executive director of LEAP.
LEAP was awarded $100,000 to build the kitchen.
