Lockdown at Appomattox County schools lifted
School officials say there was no threat against schools
APPOMATTOX COUNTY, Va. – UPDATE
Officials say the modified lockdown at Appomattox County schools has been lifted.
Appomattox County schools remain on modified lockdown as authorities continue to search the area.
Campbell County authorities are leading the search, saying the investigation started Tuesday morning after “statements were possibly made.” Authorities were not able to release the nature of those statements or if they were in reference to a threat against Appomattox County schools.
Authorities made the school system aware of the situation, and school officials ultimately decided to put the modified lockdown in place.
Law enforcement officers say they are currently trying to find this person for a welfare check.
All Appomattox County schools are under modified lockdown, according to superintendent Dr. Anette Bennett.
According to Bennett, a search for someone in the area conducted by law enforcement prompted the modified lockdown, and she claims that there is no threat to the schools.
