Man charged with posing as a police officer in Lynchburg arrested

Mills identified himself as an officer with a badge number on Friday, according to police

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Authorities have arrested a man they said was posing as a Lynchburg police officer.

William Jacob Mills faces one count of impersonating a law enforcement officer.

This is all connected to an incident on Friday when at 5:25 p.m., officers responded to the 800 block of 5th Street for a report of a man who came to the location looking for an individual.

Police were told that the man identified himself as an officer with a badge number and showed a badge when asked.

By the time officers arrived, the “officer” was gone, but police were able to identify him as Mills.

Deputies with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office arrested him on Monday afternoon.

This investigation is ongoing.
